With GPS PRIME you track your devices and, if you want, share your location with the people you choose. Here we explain in plain words what data we collect, why, who we share it with, and how you can see, correct or delete it.
1.Who we are
GPS PRIME (“GPS PRIME”, “we”) provides the tracking service you use on the website gps-prime.com and in the GPS PRIME app for Android and iPhone. We are responsible for the personal data processed to provide the service to you.
For any question about your data, write to soporte@gps-prime.com.
Back to top2.What data we collect
- Account data: email address, password (stored encrypted, never in readable form), language, time zone, country and your plan.
- GPS devices: the name you give them, their IMEI number, the type (vehicle, person, pet or object), the photo or icon you choose, and what the device sends: position, speed, heading, time, ignition on and off, battery and other technical data.
- Your phone’s location, only if you turn on “Share my location” (see the next section).
- Your phone’s motion sensors for Safe driving (see below).
- Phone battery level, while you share your location, so your group knows if your phone is running out of charge.
- Your group or circle: who you invite, who accepts, the places (zones) you create, alerts, reminders and panic alerts.
- Technical usage data: phone model and operating system, app version, the identifier used to send you notifications, IP address, access date and time, and error logs.
- Payments: the plan purchased, the date, the amount and the transaction number given to us by the payment provider or app store. We do not receive or store your card numbers.
- What you write to us when you ask support for help.
3.Your phone’s location, also in the background
If you turn on “Share my location” in the app, GPS PRIME collects your phone’s location even when the app is closed or not in use (in the background). We do this so the people in your group can see where you are on the map, to save your route, to alert when you arrive at or leave a place, and to calculate your Safe driving score.
While sharing in the background, your phone shows a permanent GPS PRIME notification. You can stop sharing at any time: turn off “Share my location” in the app or remove the location permission in your phone settings. If you do not turn it on, we do not collect your phone’s location; the GPS devices you add send their position on their own.
Back to top4.Motion sensors and Safe driving
When you share your location and we detect that you are in a vehicle, the app uses your phone’s motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) to detect harsh braking, hard acceleration, sharp turns and phone use while in the vehicle. We use this to calculate the Safe driving score that you and, if you belong to a group, the people in that group can see.
We only send the detected events to our servers (time, type, strength, speed and place), not the full sensor signal. We do not read your messages, your calls or what you do in other apps: “phone use” is inferred only from the movement of the device.
Back to top5.Why we use your data
- To provide the service: show your devices and your group on the map, save routes, send alerts, panic alerts, reminders and reports.
- To create and protect your account, let you sign in and recover your password.
- To charge for and activate the Prime plan.
- To show ads on the Free plan (see “Ads”).
- To send you service emails and notifications (for example, alerts or changes to your account).
- To give support, fix errors, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve the service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data. We process your data because it is necessary to provide the service you asked for, with your consent (for example, your phone’s location and personalized ads, which you can withdraw at any time), to comply with the law, and for our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure.
Back to top6.Who we share your data with
- The people in your group or circle whom you invite and who accept: they see the location, route, battery, alerts and Safe driving of what you share with the group. You decide who to invite and you can leave the group at any time.
- Service providers who work for us, only for what we ask them to do and under confidentiality: server hosting, email delivery, phone notifications, maps and addresses, and backups.
- Ads on the Free plan: Google AdMob in the app and Google AdSense on the website (see the next section).
- Payments: PayPal, Wompi, Google Play and the App Store process your payment data under their own policies.
- Authorities, only when the law requires it or to protect someone’s life or safety.
Some of these providers may be in other countries. In that case we require them to protect your data with an adequate level of security.
Back to top7.Ads on the Free plan
The Free plan is paid for by ads. In the app they are shown by Google AdMob, which may use your phone’s advertising identifier, device data and your approximate location to choose and measure ads. On the website they are shown by Google AdSense, which for the same purpose uses cookies and similar technologies in your browser, your IP address and your approximate location. See how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- Personalized ads: you can turn them off in your phone settings (on Android: Settings › Google › Ads, where you can delete or reset the advertising ID; on iPhone: Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking) and, on the website, at myadcenter.google.com or by deleting your browser cookies. You will still see ads, but not personalized ones.
- If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app and the website ask for your consent before showing personalized ads.
- We do not give advertisers your name, your email or the location of your GPS devices.
- With the Prime plan there are no ads.
8.Cookies on the website
The gps-prime.com website stores small files (cookies) in your browser, of two kinds:
- Necessary: they keep you signed in, protect the forms and remember your language. The website does not work without them, so they cannot be turned off.
- Advertising (Free plan only): set by Google AdSense to show, cap and measure ads, and to choose personalized ads if you allow it. You can see and delete them in your browser settings and decide about personalized ads at myadcenter.google.com. With the Prime plan they are not loaded.
If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the website asks you before using advertising cookies, and you can change your choice at any time.
Back to top9.Payments
The Prime plan is paid on the website with PayPal or Wompi, and in the app through Google Play or the App Store. You enter your card or account details on the page of that payment provider or store, not in GPS PRIME. We do not store your card numbers. We only receive the payment confirmation: the plan, the amount, the date and the transaction number.
Back to top10.How long we keep your data
- Your account, device and group data, for as long as your account exists.
- Positions and routes, for as long as your plan lets you view them; after that they are deleted in our regular clean-ups.
- Payment data, for as long as accounting and tax laws require.
- If you delete your account, what is explained in “Deleting your account” applies.
11.Security
The website and the app communicate with our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored encrypted. Access to the servers is limited to the people who need it to run the service, and we make backups. No system is infallible: if an incident affecting your data occurred, we would inform you as the law requires.
Keep your password safe and do not share it. If you think someone got into your account, change it and write to us.
Back to top12.Your rights
At any time you can:
- Know what data we hold about you and ask for a copy.
- Correct or update it (you can change most of it yourself in your account).
- Ask us to delete it, or delete your account.
- Withdraw your consent: stop sharing your location, turn off personalized ads or leave a group.
- Object to a specific use of your data or ask us to restrict it.
- File a complaint with the data protection authority of your country (in Colombia, the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce).
Write to soporte@gps-prime.com from your account email. We reply within 15 business days at most.
Back to top13.Children
GPS PRIME is not directed at children. You must be of legal age to create an account. A parent or guardian may use GPS PRIME to see the location of their minor child, under their responsibility and with the child’s phone or device in their care. If you think a minor gave us data without that permission, write to us and we will delete it.
Back to top14.Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, whenever you want: in the app (Settings › Delete my account), on the web (your account menu › Delete my account) or, if you cannot sign in, by writing to soporte@gps-prime.com from your account email. The steps are at gps-prime.com/borrar-cuenta.
What is deleted, right away: your account and sign-in details, the devices that are only yours with their positions and trips, your phone’s location, Safe driving, your places, alerts, reminders, emergency contacts and settings, and your membership in groups (the other people stop seeing you). If you created a group, the people in it keep their account and their devices.
What is kept: payment records, without your name or email, for as long as accounting and tax laws require. Backups are replaced in their normal cycle, within 90 days at most, and are not used to restore deleted accounts.
If you have a Prime subscription on Google Play or the App Store, cancel it in the store as well: deleting your account does not stop the store’s charges.
Back to top15.Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page with its date. If the change is important, we will notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
